GENERAL

How did ANIMA start?

During the pandemic, we all had some time to reflect on what’s truly important. What we realised is that we want to figure out how we can re-enter the world doing more good than we were doing before.

That moment of reflection got us thinking about how we treat the Earth and how we treat each other. That feeling of disconnection from ourselves and our environment is damaging. We wanted to do something to fix that.

ANIMA came from the desire to inspire those of us who want to do something good but don’t know where to look. It came from the desire to connect people around the world in ways that will make their lives a bit easier or richer. We want to connect people to their unique way of doing good and help facilitate those actions in real, tangible, manageable ways.

In 2020, while COVID was forcing us to wake up and change our ways of living, ANIMA was born.

What is ANIMA MUNDI?

It’s hard to deny that there’s something that connects humans to each other and also back to nature. It’s not just the fact that we all live on earth; it runs deeper than that.

Philosophers have tried to describe that feeling, referring to it as the “soul that energizes all life in the universe.” This feeling–this energy–is ĀNIMA Mundi. When we increase our consciousness, we tap into that energy.

Anima Mundi means “the world soul.” It refers to the intrinsic connection between all living things on the planet. It’s easiest to think of it as similar to the way the soul is connected to the human body. Anima Mundi is the ‘soul’ of all things on the planet, including animals, people and nature. We all have this soul in us, no matter how different we may be.

Through ĀNIMA Mundi, we are all connected to each other.

What’s ANIMA’s legal status?

OUR PROJECTS

What countries are you working in?

We are currently working in Mexico and Holland. We hope to expand to Curacao, South Africa and Brazil in the near future and have big plans on the horizon!

What are the projects of Anima?

As of June 2021, Anima has 3 concurrent projects. These projects have all been started in the last year and will set the foundation for the impact that Anima will have around the world. We firmly believe in the ripple effect of change: how one small change can multiply as it spreads from person to person until it creates a huge wave of change. All of our projects start small and spread outward, growing bigger as each person passes on the good to the next.

Our 3 projects are as follows:

  1. Connecting to Indigenous Voices

Here we focus on uplifting and centring indigenous stories and voices. We intend to share their stories and pass on their knowledge to people all around the world. There are many lessons that we can learn from indigenous folks about caring for the planet and caring for each other. Rather than have us tell their stories, we want to give them the platform to tell them for themselves. Through this project, we hope to connect people from around the world to this indigenous knowledge. Learn more by clicking the link above.

  1. Connecting Women to Good

Empowering women is an important goal of ours. We think that the best way to do that is by creating a safe space for women from around the world to gather, share and support each other. Our first attempt at this involves a group of women in Mexico and a group of women in Holland coming together through WhatsApp. Learn more by clicking the link above.

  1. Connecting Students to Good

Students are our future. Our student project seeks to highlight this fact at every turn.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED // SUPPORT

How can I join ANIMA’s projects?

There are many different ways you can help us on our journey of increasing consciousness and doing good.

As an individual, you can volunteer your time to help us with whatever unique skills you might have. If you are located in Holland or Mexico, you can help us take care of the projects that we are working on in-person. If you are located outside of those two countries, you can still contribute in whatever capacity suits you best! Get in touch with us either via DM or email and we will make it happen!

How can I volunteer?

Send us an email at info@anima.global and we can get you in touch with our team about how you can volunteer. You can always keep up to date by scrolling through our Instagram, where you will often find posts that are calls to action. Our instagram is linked here. Often, we are looking to help someone do something, or looking to make a connection between people halfway around the world.

How can I donate?

We take donations primarily through PayPal right now. We are a registered foundation in Holland, so all donation payments will be made into our Dutch account. If you check out the donate page, you can find more information about how to donate and find a QR code that you can scan to donate directly, seamlessly and easily.

Your donation can be a one-off lump sum, a monthly donation, or one that renews annually.

How much of my contribution is actually spent for the purpose of the project(s)?

ANIMA has operating and administrative expenses including salaries, travel, rent, utilities, etc. to get our projects done and do the most good we can around the world. In order for our projects to function, we must cover those costs as well as the costs of our projects.

Your contribution allows our projects to run and our employees to be paid. With your donation, we are able to support our projects across Holland and Mexico. It will be divided between all of our projects on an as-needed basis, meaning money is allocated where it is needed most the moment we receive it.

In our annual reports, you can read more about how the donations have been spent in recent years.

Is my contribution tax-deductible?

It depends! The biggest determining factor is the country that you are from. You will have to check out your local tax code to figure it out for sure.

ANIMA is registered as a charity in The Netherlands, so if you are donating as a Dutch citizen, the process should be relatively straight-forward. We are currently in the process of being given the status of Public Benefit Organisation (Dutch acronym: ANBI) by the Dutch Tax and Customs Administration, as of June 1st 2021. The Dutch abbreviation means Algemeen Nut Beogende Instellingen.
